I talked with one of my gay friends and he told me he wanted to know me more. I was like what do you want to know about me and then he was like I want to know why you seem to be different from other guys. I don't know why he asked that, but we are all different, don't you think? I'm just who I am. That's all.

whenever you quote someone, use "..." so readers understand who's speaking -

Thank you! I wonder why on Twitter even native English speakers use "I was like" without quotation marks.... 🤔

@loveAmericanEnglish even some native speakers ignore basic grammar rules, especially in online social media forums.

@loveAmericanEnglish On twitter especially, due to the letter limits, you will see a lot of shorthand English that would not be used in normal conversations. Social media is great to talk to other English speakers but not always the best to learn proper grammar.

You've got a point there. I usually learn English by reading various kinds of books because I love reading more than anything else. When I want to communicate with international people, I spend time with them using English on Twitter by always tweeting in it. I try to read as many Americans' tweets as possible so I've found that some native English speakers misspell "should have" as "should of" or "than" as "then." I had been wondering why by the time you told me why.

some common grammatical mistakes are even made by natives as well.
examples:
to/two/too
Their/They're/There
aren't/ain't
you'll/ya'll
For all intents and purposes// For all intensive purposes

Oh I'm personally fond of "ain't" and "y'all." I happen to listen to those kinds of words while listening to music. Needless to say, I myself never use them. 😄
