Did you mean “what’s the difference between Cardinal numbers and Ordinal/sequential numbers?” Because ordinal and sequential numbers are the same thing.
•Cardinal numbers are numbers that express how many something is or how many there are. “One, two, three, four....”
•sequential/ordinal numbers express a sequence. “First, second, third, fourth...”
•You’d use sequential/ordinal numbers when listing things. For example:
“First, I woke up. Second, I brushed my teeth. Third, I got dressed. Fourth, I went to school.”
•Cardinal numbers can be used like this:
“There is one cat. There are three dogs.”

@samaralee Thank you for the above answer. I actually do want to know is there any difference, even subtle one, between ordinal number and sequential number. Can they be used interchangably in all context?

@Sam2014 “ordinal” is the proper term for “first, second, third...” numbers. When describing ordinal numbers, the word “sequential” will probably be used in the definition of “ordinal”, rather than what the numbers are called.

@samaralee thanks again for your clear explanation. I fully understand what you have just explained. Just allow me to explain more clearly what I want to say in a context. Let's say I am responsible for assigning numbers to machine bought in my company to avoid mix-ups. The first one I received this year was number 01, the next 02, and so on. Then the numbers I assigned to the machine are called ordinal numbers? Can I call them sequential numbers?
