"compensate for" means to "make up" for something. "he compensated for his lack of talent with his friendly personality". counterbalance is used for literal weights on a scale, and is rarely used. ive never even heard of countervail.

i have studied using textbooks, lang8.com, anki (program), and by talking to natives. it is very difficult for many English speakers... english and japanese are very different languages

Yeah, I agree with you. Maybe the time of mastering Japanese is equivalent to that of mastering French, Italy, Spanish?

sorry, i meant lang-8.com. hmm, i think it may be longer for japanese, because French, italian, and german are all european languages, just like english.

at a very young age, i was exposed to a lot of japanese because my brother showed me anime. so, when i had the opportunity to learn japanese in middle school, i started studying it.

I studied many languages, but I can use only three ones in daily life...
I was interested in Medicine and Pure math, but I lost a passion for studying them...Now I'm interested in an intersection between finance and computer science. My object is to set up my company with my smart friends in order to get a super big money.

im 22, asian-american. my major is mathematics, and my future career will be teaching math in high school. currently, i am studying japanese as a hobby, but hope to teach it as well.

the happiest moments would be that i could understand anime without subtitles and being able to communicate with japanese natives through speaking and text

filipino-american. hmm, i am actually not that interested in math, but am interested in real analysis (although I am not very good at it).

im not sure what the percentages are, but most asian-americans i know like anime like one piece or bleach.

no. i live in areas where there are a lot of other races, so people here are used to differences between race. however, in the south (southern part of united states), i may experience racism.

yes, usually by facial structure and eye shape.

hm. maybe. if you watch anime so much that you do poorly in school, then it is detrimental. but thats like playing games, or watching movies... if you do that too much, thats detrimental too right? personally, i was exposed to natural japanese pronounciation at a young age because of anime, so my pronounciation and listening ability is above average.

Haha, I don't want to go to the southern part of the U.S. because I could be killed by radical white people. I think they all are a narrow-minded and outdated mind?

To be honest, they are not that dangerous. There's no real way to distinguish them either. If I gave you some tips, that would be the same as racism right? (Discrimination based on appearance).

Using pronouns is sort of confusing sometimes, but I try to copy how natives use it.
