Can é usado para mostrar uma possibilidade.
Por exemplo:
I can dance with you!
Posso dançar com você!
No presente.
Could é usado no passado, também mostrando uma possibilidade de duas formas diferentes.
Could you help please?
Você poderia me ajudar?
Ou seja,
