@fnnhope: Reading is a good way to build vocabulary (comic books would be good to start with as they kinda also show what is being said being done), or flashcards

@fnnhope: Read, the more you read the more new words you'll see and you will see them being used.
Try and challenge yourself with books that have variety of words you probly not used to. If your still not sure what the a word means when reading in the contents it used in you can look up the definition in a dictionary to see the different definition or ask people around you to see different veiw points on the word. Also just speeking to people can expand your vocabulary

@fnnhope: mostly from school but other than that if you read a English word and you don't know what it means just search it up and it will show up in your language and you'll be alright

@NurAlyaSaniah: I just started using it, and while it romanizes a lot of the vocabulary, it's pretty helpful in pushing you to memorize a few words at a time. Plus, it's free, so there's no harm in giving it a try.

when I study a new language I usually read articles and books whenever I can to build up my vocabulary. whenever I find a word that I don't recognize, I instantly search for it in the language dictionary, but never in the translation one (example: english-english and not english-portuguese) this helps me learn the word like a native speaker would and helps it stick to my mind :)

Native speakers of English? And learn new words in which language? In Chinese? In French? In Czech? In my own language, English? Generally, I learn new words by reading or by listening/watching. More precisely, I encounter (run into) new words by reading or listening. sometimes, I go looking for them, because I want to say something that I don't yet know the words for. For practice, I talk to myself, or use flashcards (these days, electronic instead of paper).

To build on my speech, I buy books to study the grammar and I use Memrise to help me with vocabulary. If you don't have the money to buy books, YouTube might have some things to help. To practice reading, read things like books, magazines, and newspapers(available online).

@Ladysmart: Just a quick Google search brings up a ton of ready lists of vocabulary :) You can create your own, as well, if that is a helpful strategy.

@Meole: I'm learning Japanese on there, and so far, I haven't come across any vocab which uses only hiragana/katakana/kanji. Maybe I just haven't advanced far enough yet. Or maybe I can try using a different course :)

@desmora0102 I am studying Korean and you are right. It might be a requirement, I'm not sure. I don't look at them because it's better not to. You will get used to reading. Good luck!
