Many foreigners don't know the difference between the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" and the "Republic of Korea" because they never hear those names.
But they DO know the difference between "North Korea" and "South Korea" because those are the common names.
Do all South Koreans get offended when someone doesn't know that the "DPRK" is the same as "North Korea"? Do you get mad when foreigners don't know the official names?

No I don't think so. We ourselves are also more comfortable with the 'South/North Korea' term. I've seen many Koreans who don't know the difference between DPRK/ROK.
