Assuming you are an absolute beginner, I would recommend you to start it by learning Hiragana and Katakana, the very basic two character systems. Learn how to read, how to write in correct stroke order. Once you are comfortable with them, you are ready to begin learning phrases, grammar, reading, writing, listening, learning Kanji or maybe a bit of everything depending on your goal.

Anime and manga are not the best resources when it comes to the real Japanese conversation.
