It is not "to stand-up". To stand up is "levantar-se". "Pôr de pé" is to put something in a standing position. There is a slight difference. You could say "eu ponho esta vela de pé" which would translate as "I put this candle in a standing position". It would not be translated as "I stand-up this candle". Note if I say "eu ponho-me de pé" then I am saying that I am putting myself in a standing position (which in this case is the same as standing up).
