A spending spree is when a person spends a lot of money in a short space of time.
For example:
Person A: I just spent £200 on clothes.
Person B: wow, that's loads!
Person A: I know! It's fun to go on a spending spree every now and then.

Like gabbromley said, it's when somebody spends a lot of money in a short space of time. However, I believe it also indicates you spent it on more than just 1 or 2 things.
So, spending £200 on a flight would not be a spending spree, but spending £200 on clothes would be.
