Try something more like "A virus is like a human virus. A computer can get infected with a virus if the user opens an infected program. Viruses can sometimes make their own configurations, and start networking services. These network services allow a hacker to read any data that the user has on his/her computer."
It's pretty good, I understood what you ment. The "sniff" part can be correct, but it is a little informal compared to the rest of the paragraph. It could still be used though.

You don't have to capitalize virus or network unless there is a specific name for them.
