A customer tends to be someone who buys something. For example, if you buy something from the grocery store, you are a customer at the grocery store.
A client is someone who is still paying for something but instead of it being a product it's usually a service they're paying for. For example, you would be a client at a hair salon. Hope it makes sense:)
