Try on= put it on your body, one tries on clothes (probarse la ropa)
Try out= tries to do something, you try out for a team

Try on=test how the clothing looks on you. Ex. Try this dress on.
Try out=test something new or different. Ex. Try out this new recipe. Can also be-Try this new recipe.
Try out does not need the “out,” but try on needs the “on.”
