らしい　VS　ようだ
These two have similar functions, so they are often confusing.

(1)similarity (equivalent to "like" in English)
a.今日は春のような天気だ。
b.今日は春らしい天気だ。
I might translate these Japanese sentences into "Today the weather is like spring.".
However, SENTENCE-(a) has a nuance, where actually it's not spring (it may be winter, or summer, or autumn), but today's weather has a typical feature as if it were spring.
SENTENCE-(b) expresses that today is one of spring days and is typical for spring( (ex)it's warm and calm, etc)

(2)a judgement (equivalent to "seem" or "look like" in English)
a.彼は風邪をひいたようだ。
b.彼は風邪をひいたらしい。
I might translate these Japanese sentences into "It seems that he's got a cold.".
However, SENTENCE-(a) is a judgement more by his own sensations or experience, whereas SENTENCE-(b) is one by some information from others or hearsay.
