You should reply about "what's up / new with your life" it's like meeting an old friend and ask him "so, what's new with you?"

Thank you very much. But if there's nothing new with me, how should I respond?

"Nada"
Or you could return the question:
"Nada, y tu?"

You can respond with "nothing much, what about you?" or "just chillin' " in Mexico we answer with "nada" (nothing) or "aquí nada mas como siempre" (here, just like that as always). It's not much about grammatical rules , it's more about the expression.
