Pergunta sobre Inglês (EUA)

Suppose I am bored with my current job, so I intentionally postpone doing my tasks and finally get fired. However two months before getting fired I have had a job interview at another company and I was told that my chance of being hired there would be high.
When I go to the interviewing company, I'm told that they have hired somobody just the day before.

Now, I feel that I'm stuck in a situation that neither capable of going back to my previous job, nor finding a new job that soon.

Can I say :

" I have painted myself into the corner by leaving my job"?

I want to say : At present I feel my options are nearly zero and this makes me hopeless. Does "paint oneself into corner" convey this meaning?
