Most teenagers have their phones purchased by their parents. iPhones are very popular here, but so are Samsungs. I would say that most teenagers use smartphones, especially one of those two brands. iPhones are cheaper here than anywhere else in the world; my friend in China says that they are in very high demand there and more expensive due to tariffs. Most people here pay for them in contracts rather than the entire cost all at once.

As snapchamp says, most people sign up for a contract with the wireless carrier. This way they pay a relatively small amount up-front. Part of the cost of the phone is included in every monthly bill.
A lot of teenagers use Android phones as well.
