“nı” is used here to make the word an object.

you cannot make a sentence like “kitabın sayfası aç”, you have to specify it (kitabın sayfası) to make it an object in the sentence.
(can also be used as i, i, u, nu, ni, yi… etc.)

for example:

“ceket kaybetti” is incorrect. To make the word “ceket” an object, you would have to say “ceketi kaybetti”.

"dolap açtı" is incorrect. the closet becomes the subject here. to say that you have opened the cabinet, you have to say "dolabı açtı".

for example, you want to say that someone is calling Emre. If you say "Emre aradı", the caller will be Emre. If you say "Emre’yi aradı", you are saying that someone is calling Emre.

so it is used to make the word a specified object.

You can think it as “wo” in Japanese. Wo indicates what is being affected. I mean, it is used if there is an effect on the object. And there is also an effect on the object in the sentence that you wrote.

“Open the page of the book.”

What should I open? (Neyi açmalıyım?)

The page. (Sayfayı.)

So, it gives an answer to the “what” question.

And so… Why is it written as "sayfasını" in the sentence that you wrote? Because that word is not there by itself. The word “kitap” comes before it. So it's a part of the book. “Sayfa” modifies the “kitap”.

Open the page. - Sayfayı aç.

Open the page of the book. - Kitabın sayfasını aç.

Like “open the something of the something”.

@ayamari thanks for your reply! I see it has similar meanings with wo in Japanese. So can I also say “kitabın sayfasıyı aç”? Because I learned how to make accusative case by putting -(y) ı i u ü.

No, you can’t use “-y”. You should use only “-n” in these situations (I mean, if there is “something of something”).

Kitabın yazarı-n-ı
Kapının kolu-n-u
Arabanın kapısı-n-ı

As you see, there is always “-n”. Because there is something of something. Like “kuruma no doa”.

“-y” can be used in different situations.

@ayamari thanks!! I didnt know that the buffer letter -n when added as a second suffix to an already extended noun - this taking the form -ne,na. for ex, kedisi - his cat, kedisine - to his cat
