Como é que se diz isto em Português (Portugal)? The flock of birds, the herd of reindeer, the swarm of butterflies, the group of sea cows (manatees), the cloud of bats, the flock of geese, and the pool of whales go back home.

I am trying to see how all these different groups of animals would be called in Portugal. These are all the proper terms to call these animals if you were to refer to them in groups. How would they be referred to in Portugal?

flock of birds -> bando de pássaros
herd of reindeer -> rebanho de veados/renas
swarm of butterflies -> (we don't usually say anything for butterflies, but if you really need to use it, i searched and in some books we say "bando de borboletas" you can also use "enxame" but this one is usually associated with bees)
the group of sea cows -> (again I don't know if there's an actual name for it but you can just say "conjunto de manatins", in fact if you don't know the specific name you can simply say "conjunto de + animal")
cloud of bats -> bando de morcegos /colónia de morcegos (if they are from the same species)
flock of geese-> bando de gansos
pool of whales-> baleal de baleias

go back home-> voltam para casa/ retornam a casa

usually if the animals fly we use "bando"

@xbreak thank you!! I heard that in Brazil, "rebanho" is only used for animals that are being watched by someone like a herder or a farmer. Is it the same in Portugal? Is bando usually only used for animals that fly? How common is it to use rebanho and bando to call groups of animals? In day to day conversation, would you just say "group of + animal?"

@kmverissi yes, rebanho is actually more commonly used with sheep, however I did some research and even though it's not commonly used, it's very rare in daily conversation to talk about a group of reindeer, it is ok to call reindeer a "rebanho", you can also call it a "manada", more associated with cows, i would probably use the latter one. Bando is very common, and it applies to animals that fly, however Portuguese people can casually use this in a conversation to describe a group of things or people (if not related to animals), for example " vi um bando de miúdos a correr" that can be translated to "I saw a bunch of kids running" here bando, simply means "bunch".
Yes, you can use group of/ aglomeration (aglomeração) or simply various (vários) + animals, if you don't know or remember the exact name, we will understand just fine.

@xbreak thanks! do you guys use "manada?" would it be more appropriate to say "manada de renas" or "rebanho de renas?"

I heard in Brazil that manada refers to groups of animals that are not being herded by someone and rebanho refers to animals that are monitored by people like cows or sheep. so I'm wondering what it's like in Portugal?

@kmverissi it's not something that we usually say, so I believe most Portuguese don't even know the correct name, but yes, i would probably go more with manada, sounds much better.

Estou tentando ver como todos esses diferentes grupos de animais seriam chamados em Portugal. Esses são todos os termos apropriados para chamar esses animais se você se referir a eles em grupos.
