Pergunta sobre Inglês (EUA)
O que significa obdurate ?
O que significa obdurate ?
AFAIK, this is a synonym to "obstinate" and "stubborn", but perhaps there are certain situations this word would fit better? When should I use it?

I've only heard obdurate a couple of times, so, in terms of usage, I'd advise you to use 'obstinate' or 'stubborn' in casual, day to day conversations.
One key difference is that "obstinate" can be used to describe problems or events that are difficult to overcome/change, whereas "obdurate" and "stubborn" are usually used with people. **edit: You can also use "stubborn" to describe certain things, like a "stubborn cough" (a cough that doesn't go away) or a "stubborn problem" (a problem that is persistent or is difficult to overcome.)
I hope that helps!

@SailorElsa thanks a lot. Still, I'm wondering why we can't say "stubborn problem" or "stubborn cough", for instance. I've not used it myself, but some dictionaries provide examples like that

@dest1ny- If the dictionary says it's okay to use it with those things, then, I guess you can! :) Now that I think of it, we do use it to describe those things. I'll fix my original answer :)
