Como é que se diz isto em Inglês (RU)? hi there! I am a bit confused with the expression get used to... is it get used to wear jeans or get used to wearing jeans?

@RubyRico thanks a lot but if I say: I am getting used to wearing.... or you say wear? I am not native but I think we cant use progressive twice in a same sentence. is that correct?

This is confusing for a lot of people so don't worry.

Okay, remember this rule:

When you say "used to" add the infinitive...

and when you say...
"be used to" or "get used to" you add the infinitive with ‘ing’ (gerund)

For example:

• I used to talk (infinitive)

• I am used to talking (infinitive + ing)(gerund)

• I get used to talking (infinitive + ing) (gerund)

@spoiled_human i think when we talk about things that we used to do... in the past or present. but when we are in a different country, for example, you have to learn some new things in order to get used to them... and when you achieve it.. you are used to them. So in those uses... get used to and be used to goes with verb+gerund. Is this correct @Jimmy_James ???

• "Used to" is something in the past

• "Get used to" is the process of becoming "used to"

For example: "I was learning a new phrase in English to GET USED TO the sound of it. Now that I have learned it, I'm USED TO it"
