①Do these two sentences make sense to you? ②If so, could you explain to me the connotations of these two sentences?③Which sentence better fits in the context?
1--I haven't been speaking English for for long.
2--I haven't spoken English for so long.
(Context: I was busy with university work and didn't have time practicing English. After a long time, I finally have the time to pick up my English and practice my speaking skill)

@Hyyyyyyy
I haven’t spoken English in quite awhile.
Your first sentence – assuming that the mistakes in it were not intended – tells us that you literally just began learning. The second sentence is fine for your purpose, but I do try to tell adults to avoid using the word – so – as an intensifier in this way.
I haven’t spoken English for sooooooo long! – It looks funny and it sounds funny once or twice, but this is really the way that teenagers speak and it’s not a great habit to get into if you are not a teenager and have no intention of becoming one soon.
Quite awhile
Quite some time
This is the proper way to do it 👍

@isthmus_x: Oh I see! Thank you for the detailed explanation! I actually do this a lot, like 'soooo/ niceeee'. I think that's the downside of learning from the Internet. I will keep that in mind :)
I have one follow-up question to ask. How would the first sentence imply that I just started learning? Shouldn't that be 'I have never spoken English before and now I finally start learning it'?

I haven’t been speaking English for long
There’s literally no information in this sentence except –
(I have been speaking English) (for) (not long)
Where is the information that tells us that you used to speak it, but then you had a break?
I haven’t spoken English for quite some time
(I have spoken English) (not for some time)
I have spoken English, but there has been a break of time
The negation has to negate a specific idea within the sentence. In the first one, it negates all of the time. In the second one it negates a period of time.
