both are the same! the second one sounds more natural

The first one does not sound natural unless you give more context.
EX. More and more people buy smartphones to take high quality pictures.
The first sentence feels like a ために Japanese sentence equivalent.
The second sentence sounds a lot more natural, It's clearly saying that the amount of people buying smartphones is going up.

1 is more of a general statement
and 2 is in present tense. this one sounds more natural :)
