"de" when right after it goes a consonant.
"di" when after it goes a vowel.

Es "da" cuando le sigue una palabra cuyo sonido sea el de una consonante y "di" cuando sea el de una vocal.
Por ejemplo:
The city (da)
The end (di)
The hour (di, porque la h es muda en ese caso).
