Both 감사합니다 and 고맙습니다 mean the same thing, which expresses gratitude. They can be used interchangeablely. The difference is such as: 감사 originated from Chinese so it can be written in Chinese letters. 고맙다 is a native Korean expression which Koreans called 순우리말. I think people say 감사합니다 more often than 고맙습니다. It is my personal opinion. Some people may like to hear 고맙습니다 because it sounds prettier.
