We don't really have a good onomatopoeia (This is the english word for "sound words" like haha) for crying, unfortunately. I mean, we do, things like "boohoo" and "waaaaaah", but none that would be used the way "haha" are. Closest other thing are emoticons like ;_;

Sobbing is a word for very messy crying. It's not actually the sound of crying but "to sob" "sobbing" and "sobbed" are all versions of it. Putting it on its own in asterisks is a clear way of saying online "while crying"
