What should I use here? "It takes me" or... "I take"?

I take/it takes me a long time to fully understand a sentence, I'm too slow to grasp what someone says

@Nachtfox oh thanks. and don't they give a different feeling if you use one or another?

like from what I understand is that normally "it takes me" gives the feeling of the activity being the government of the time it lasts... and "I take" gives more the feeling that you are more in control of the time or it's more because of you that the time doing something lasts that way.

@Oveja_Walker I think the reason you're getting the feeling of one of them being "more in control" is because I believe "it takes me" is passive voice and "I take" is active voice. You're switching the roles of subject and object, so that's probably why "it takes me" sounds like you're controlling the situation more.

@Nachtfox oh I see I see, but here it seems more complicated than that and these don't work the same as other verbs in their passive/active form... that's why I asked, but with the things you told me I realize they're pretty much interchangeable most of the time
