“Thanks for getting back to me” is perfect English. “And the opportunity” is an incomplete and thus unnatural phrase. We need to know what kind of opportunity the writer is thanking the reader for. You might write instead, “Thank you for getting back to me and for the opportunity to talk with you.” I would tend to use “thank you” instead of “thanks” here because a thank-you note is in and of itself a formal kind of writing, and “Thank you” is much more formal than “Thanks.”
