The words are synonyms. I would be more likely to use “might”.

"may" can be used for asking for or granting permission formally, as in "May I go to the toilet?" "yes you may". Might is also used as a very polite version, as in "Might we ask you a question?" or "Might I just interrupt you for a moment?"
Both "may" and "might" can be used for when we are not sure about something at the present or past, or when we make guesses about the future: e.g. "it may rain later." or "it might not rain today."
Lastly "might" is used as a past tense of requests with "may", such as "John asked if he might borrow the umbrella this morning." Here a present version would be "John asks if he may borrow the umbrella."
