Pergunta sobre Inglês (EUA)
O que significa "Hey, bonehead, just because his totem is wisdom doesn't mean he's wise." What I don't understand is that "bonehead" part. The sentence is from the movie Brother bear. But what I know: "bonehead" is an insult and means "a stupid person". Am I correct? ?

You're right. "bonehead" is an insult. It's like replacing the word of a Male sexual organ in the insult. "d*ckhead".
But, if you want a family friendly explanation, "bonehead" could mean there's no brain in the persons head, only an empty "bone" shell.

@nerdyrascalx Okay, thanks. Is it a fun thing? You said "haha" And I don't have brothers but do brothers insult each other?
- Inglês (EUA)
@Babbaaabaa I playfully insult my siblings all the time. "bonehead" is not a serious insult. It's more like "You silly goose".

@nerdyrascalx Okay, thank you, I understand now. So it is common and a friendly thing?
One question yet: have you seen the movie Big hero 6? There were also used insults by the older brother. Are they still on this same "harmless category" (I understood that those are harmless if you insult PLAYFULLY too): "What were you thinking, knucklehead?" and "I hope you learned your lesson, bonehead"
P.S. What is "you silly goose"? I have never heard it.

So I don't know if this exists in your language (Swedish) but there are degrees of insults. And to set this as an example (one being more playful and teasing in nature):
1. "You silly goose"
2. "bonehead"
3. words involving sexual organs
4. words involving ones parents or degrading or/and racist terms
does that makes sense?

"silly goose" directly off of google:
The expression “silly goose” refers to a person who acts in a childish, foolish but somewhat comical way. This term originates from several sources. If their mates come too close to another male, the angry goose will stand in between them, comically waggling its wings and making hissing sounds to deter his rival.
it reminds me of the "Up" Pixar movie where Kevin the bird just "hiss" at Dug the talking dog all the time.

@nerdyrascalx okay, thanks. And I have seen this. This is from some memorial site:
"Never seemed to take life seriously but did. Always was laughing. When the chips were down, you could count on him. I miss him more than words can say. I love you bonehead 😥 From your older brother, me. "
So I guess "bonehead" really is a nickname, right?

@Babbaaabaa to my understanding, yeah.

@nerdyrascalx Just one question yet: someone has told me that actually adding "knucklehead" and "bonehead" made the sentences softer because Tadashi was "lighten the mood" and he wasn't as seriiys as he could have been. Do you agree with this opinion?
- Inglês (EUA)
@Babbaaabaa I will have to rewatch the movie to give you more comments 😅. it depends on the situation and his tone.

@nerdyrascalx I don't make you watch these short clips but if you want to help me, you possibly can watch these short clips and then tell me did "knucklehead" and "bonehead" soften the sentences and why. Thank you

@Babbaaabaa I think he was mad and in the moment. thats why he called his brother "knucklehead" and "bonehead".
does it soften the sentence?
I think so. because he called his bro that instead of their name. making it more casual and soften the tone... in a way

@nerdyrascalx Okay, thank you. :) Nice to hear that you think too that it "knucklehead" and "bonehead" soften the sentences :). That's why someone else told me too. I never thought that adding "knucklehead" and "bonehead" would be softer than saying name (Hiro). I always thought it would be insulting and mean which I don't accept BUT if the thing is opposite, that's totally fine :). Just curious is it just those terms or if Tadashi would have said "idiot", is it still softer?
And last one, do softer means same as kinder? So are "What were you thinking, knucklehead?" and "I hope you learned your lesson, bonehead" kinder that those sentences without those terms? Or are they just softer, not kinder?
And what does "more casual" mean?
- Inglês (EUA)
if somone calls me by my name in the sentence, "what were you thinking, Annabelle?????" I'd think I'm in trouble.

@nerdyrascalx Okay, thanks. So you think that calling "knucklehead" and "bonehead" are indeed softer than calling by name? And do softer mean same as kinder in this context: "What were you thinking, knucklehead?" and "I hope you learned your lesson, bonehead"? And could you tell me what did you mean by that "more casual"? Thank you!
