Is this correct to say?
“The earth will be covered in an abundance of grain.”
is it “in a abundance” or “in an abundance”
When i say the second one out loud, it makes more sense but idk

If the next work begins with a vowel or a letter that sounds like a vowel you are supposed to say "an" instead of "a" although many people don't bother with it much of the time. One example is the word historic. It should be "an historic event" for example but most of the time you'll hear "a historic event." However, like you pointed out, you can often tell by how it sounds when you say it which one is correct.
