@tttttkkkkk “could” is more uncertain than “was able to”. You could do it, but that doesn’t mean you did. If you were able to do it, it sounds more like you actually did do it. They are very similar.

I could go to the store. - I could go to the store but might not actually do it.
I was able to go to the store. - I had the ability to go to the store, and it is usually implied that I did unless I say I was able to but did not actually do the task. (“I was able to go to the store, but didn’t have time.”)

They mean the same thing. Either can be used in normal conversation.

I'm really confused by the difference between "could" and "was able to". For example, If you heard "I could catch the train yesterday.", that sounds wrong and "I was able to catch the train yesterday." is more natural, right?

For the first sentence I wrote (I'm glad you could make it.) , it sound like the person actually came, right..? since the sentence starts with "I'm glad".
