@miikkannn Yes that's correct! They have the same meaning, but "thus" sounds a bit old-fashioned and thus more formal. When writing essays, I tend to use "thus" a lot, but a lot of my friends use "therefore" more. But I think a good practice is not to use either too often. I think people should use a mixture of both. Hope this helps!!

We don't usually have a formulaic sentence to write at the end of our essay. Usually, the last sentence of the essay will sum up the main points of the essay but mostly lead into a broader topic.
For instance, say I was writing an essay about the pros and cons of the American education system. My last sentences could be something like:
"Thus, while the American education system has its benefits, there are still many things that need to be improved. One can only hope that future efforts to fix the problems inherent in the system will be fruitful."
Hope this helps!! Is there any specific sentence that you write in Japanese when finishing an essay?

@stanjenie I got it. Thanks a lot!! In Japan, we don’t have a formulaic sentence but we sometimes use these words when you conclude.
したがって〜、これより〜etc
したがって〜、これより〜etc

@miikkannn Thank you so much! Actually, in English we have similar phrases, although we don't put them in the last sentence specifically. Usually you will find them somewhere in the last paragraph, but not usually in the last sentence. You can use things like:
"Thus, ..."
"Therefore, ..."
"From this we can conclude..."
"This demonstrates that...."
"We can thus say...."
Hopefully this is a bit closer to what you were looking for!!

@stanjenie Oh,sorry. I have a mistake. We usually write the word これよりorしたがって when we show results and we don’t write these words necessarily in last sentence!
And I have a question. How is the difference between thus and therefore?
I think it’s almost same words and used in formal situations.

For me, conclusions in an essay are one of the most important and crucial parts of this type of writing assignment. The arguments that are given in the main part of the essay should be brought to their logical conclusion and the conclusion should put everything in its place. It is very important to keep track of the level of plagiarism in your texts, which is why I use paraphrasing from a website https://www.paraphrasinguk.com/. This helps me to neutralize the amount of plagiarism in my texts and to make the essay look as high quality as possible.
