@pepper_mint “apart” means “away from” and incorrect in this sentence. I’m assuming typing “apart” was not intentional.
I corrected the grammar in both sentences below.
A. When our dog was four years old, we adopted her as part of our family.
B. When our dog was four years old, we accepted her as a part of our family.
Both sentences mean the same, but sentence B is not common usage. It sounds awkward.
Saying “our pet dog” the word “pet” is unnecessary. Unless you live on a farm and you have dogs you do not consider pets (stray dogs or working dogs), the word “pet” is understood.
As a native speaker, I would form the sentence this way:
“We adopted our dog, Sally, when she was four years old, and she immediately became an important part of our family.”

A) clearly states you adopted her at 4.
B) is simply when you considered her part of the family. It allows for you to have adopted her years before, but not considered her part of the family for a while.

A) it makes it seem as though the family the family only adopted the dog when it was four years old and it wasn't with them the whole part.
( I would change "apart" to "a part". Apart means that they weren't together. A part it when they are a piece of the family.)
B) It makes it seem that the dog was with them the whole time but they only excepted her when she was four tears old.
I was apart from my family for some time, while studying in the US.
I am a part of a community that saves animals.
