With imply, there is an intent to *influence*. With hint there is not.

Example... A woman says to her friend, "I saw your husband at the bar last night, he was spending a lot of time talking with Dasha."

The woman is trying to IMPLY that the husband might be cheating. She isn't just saying "I saw your husband at the bar," she added more information to influence her friend to think something.

With hint there is no attempt to influence. You are telling someone about something, but you're not giving them all the information. You are 'hinting' at something.

Example: I ask you to tell me a six-letter name of a country that ends with the letter 'a'. You ask for a HINT. I say they are the biggest country in the world. Without telling you the answer, you will know the answer is Russia. I gave you a hint.
