Why black people call each others with N word? Isn't it better not using it? No offense just curious.

It's hard to explain, but they want to take the power away from those that used it against them. If they show that it doesn't hurt them then there's no more power in the word. Like I said, it's a complicated subject, but that's the main idea.

@Braaaad22: Most black people are okay with using it around each other, as long as it's in a joking matter. White people only call someone that either to be racist or... they are really, really, really close to the person, and they know they won't take offense from it.

It's made it's way into the vernacular. It is used in a similar way as "dude" or "guy". Most white people will not say it and black people use it pretty frequently with each other just as a way of addressing each other without the negative connotations generally attached to the word.

If you want an in depth look I suggest you read this short story called Meanings of A Word by Gloria Naylor it is by an African American woman who recalls the N word being said to her. It is written in first perspective and really helps show the views of African Americans on this word. If you find time I strongly suggest you go out and read it online. It will really help answer your question.

The use of the "n word" by black people is not a phenomenon exclusive to black people, but instead, a part of American culture. Similarly, Hispanic people will call each other "cabron" (don't do that), women will call each other the "b word", women will call their boyfriends "big head", male friends will call each other "motherf****", etc. It's an expression of close familiarity. But, with that familiarity absent, those are literally the most insulting words one can say to those people. Americans are weird like that, I guess.

It was used to be discriminatory to black people so we took it and made it into a word that wouldn't define us anymore. It's fine for black people to say it, but is offensive when non-black people use it because of it's history. I hope this helps coming from a black person :)

Honestly I just wish we can just stop using it. don't even like it as a slang
