“Go” + “-ing” is not always wrong. It’s used when we’re talking about movement.
“I go walking every day.”
“I go bowling on Tuesdays with my team.”
“He goes paragliding every summer.”
“He goes hunting with the hunter.”
In this case, we don’t use the form “go” + a gerund because speaking isn’t a movement action. We have to use “go” + an infinitive phrase. This is just a nit picky English rule that I don’t even think most native speakers are aware of despite us knowing this instinctually.
“He wants to be pointed toward” is not grammatically incorrect! It just sounds unnatural and awkward. You can definitely keep that unchanged and it wouldn’t be grammatically incorrect though!

@Et2Mika I have some questions: is the formula "go + (verb)-ing" an error? Is the structure "he wants to be pointed toward" grammatically incorrect?
