Is it uncommon to see people with natural red hair in Italy (whether they be native or nonnative to Italy)? In America there are a lot of us, but I have always wondered how common it is in other countries. Also what do people think of red hair? For example, people in America like to say “Redheads have fiery tempers”, or “red headed step child” (the last one is not nice, usually said to be interpreted as no one likes you)

In the part of Italy where I live it's not uncommon seeing someone with red hair. For example, the best friend of my sister has red hair, in my class there are two people with red hair (we are 25 in total), my doctor has red hair, etc ...

I dont' think there are many red heads in Italy but it's not uncommon either. If I consider my classmates during the years I 've always had at least two classmates with red hair. Nowadays we just envy red hair because it's beautiful but in the past there was a LOT of prejudice towards them, some people though they were evil creatures by nature...you can read the novella Rosso Malpelo by Verga for that, who presents the life of a red haired child and the prejudices that make him into something that he wasn't to begin with.

They're not very common, I think in my life I've seen only one person with red hair, my classmate. But I can tell you people think red hair is really beautiful😍 we don't have any kind of prejudice

@Alexiiia25 that's not Common in  Italy . few people Have Red hair, Is more Common blonde or Brown and black. and maybe not today ,but in the past there was  saying and pregiudice about people with red head.

In a school here 5 people maybe.
they are visibile and strange because they are rare . and in a family you can be the only One with Red Head.

@Natalia_nat_nati I know it's not very common in Southern Europe in general. But seeing so so few redheads seems strange, as I personally see like 1 redhead person per week or two weeks, not counting the around 10 kids in my school who had red hair. And I'm from Seville (a city in Southern Spain). Maybe there are less redheads in Italy? 🤔

Edit: I've read on Google that there's around a 0'60% of redheads in Italy and around a 1-3% in Spain, but I don't know how trustworthy those sources are. Although it would make sense, as many Spaniards have some British or Irish blood and they are the ones with more redheads in the world.
