It’s referring to the “whites” of someone’s eyes, but this is not traditional language. If you’d like an interpretation, please tell me the song title and artist. (As usual, I recommend creating a forum on lyricstranslate.com with the same question.)

@tingataco Yes I was thinking to make a post there but since I thought this could be some known expression I asked here first, the song is Fireproof from Against the current

@HanyuuFurude It’s definitely not an idiom. I read the lyrics and I don’t know what he’s saying by that expression. 🎶

@HanyuuFurude If you have a moment, could you please help me with a song question also? I live Bicicleta by Shakira with Carlos Vives. I know they are Colombian.
Below are some of the lyrics.
Una cartica que yo guardo donde te escribí
Que te sueño y que te quiero tanto
Que hace rato está mi corazón
Latiendo por ti, latiendo por ti
My question is about “have rato está mi corazón latiendo por ti, or more specifically, “está”. Is that correct? In real life conversation, would estuvo/estaba be used or something like that? (Very romantic song for your girlfriend, btw.) 😍

@tingataco Maybe it confuses you because it's kinda shortened but that's how we talk normally, the complete phrase could be: "Desde hace rato que está mi corazón latiendo por ti"
That sounds kind of poetical, a more common wording would be:
"Desde hace rato que mi corazón está latiendo por ti"
The "general norm" for when to say "*un* rato" works like this in my opinion:
Hace rato: A while referring to days, months... relatively long time
Hace un rato: A while referring to minutes, maybe hours
That "está" is totally correct and could be actually used in much situations in real life. For example:
Hace un rato que el perro está ladrando afuera y nadie le abre la puerta.
Hace rato que el teléfono me está funcionando mal. (here you could say it either as this or as "[...]que mi teléfono está[...]")
Hace un rato que está hirviendo [el agua].
Hace rato que el covid está causando estragos a nivel mundial.
(I don't know the English for "estragos" but it's like "difficult and chaotic situations")
