In Korea, Koreans say “우리 나라에서...” rather than “한국에서...” when talking about Korea. In the U.S, we would not say “in our country” because it has strong patriotic connotations (also sounds demeaning to other countries). Is Korean’s way of addressing their own country indicative of general patriotism amongst the people or has this phrase lost a patriotic connotation?

우리나라에서 can be translated in to 'in Korea'. 우리나라 doesn't have any patriotic meaning in sentence. The patriotic connotation in sentences depends on context, not words.

From what I learnt is: Korean don’t say “my” to mention the things “they don’t really have”
For example:
- 우리 친구 = my friend
- 우리 남편 = my husband
- 내 가방 = my bag
So it’s just based on their grammar and habit. Hope it helps^_^
