Almost, I think what you are trying to say is, “I was alone at work”. Let me know if I’m wrong.

Just I've seen the phrase "to be along" in the meaning "to arrive", like "The police was along in 5 minutes". But still I'm not sure about my own example above.

Still not exactly the right context. You could say “My friends came along on the road trip”, and it would make sense. But for the sentence, “The police was along in 5 minutes”, you would say, “The police came in five minutes”.

Be along:
Will come, will arrive, as in John said he'd be along in a few minutes, or The doctor's report will be along by the end of the week. This phrase always indicates a future event.
"she'll be along soon"
Will be along:
Is on one’s way or will be on one's way; is or will be coming.
“John will be along soon. He just had to make another stop on the way home.”

Oh, that's really interesting! Thank you. So, this expression is used only for the future and never for the present and past, right?

@Zotov11 WILL BE ALONG means WILL BE ARRIVING AT SOME POINT: "Your parents just called and said we should go to the restaurant now and they'll be along as soon as they get out of work."

"I was along at work in time" make no sense at all because the essence of BE ALONG is some unspecified point in time in the future, so it doesn't work with ON TIME. (Americans usually say ON time)

@ConradCowboy, you are already my favourite expert! Your explanation is so comprehensible and clear to me. This expression sounds really cool. And I'm happy to use it correctly now.
P.S My special thanks for ON TIME!

@Zotov11 you’re very welcome! The only time we use “in time“ is when we arrive before it’s too late to see, participate or receive something. So we usually use it in the phrase “in time for something.“ for example: “Since we were driving all the way from Miami, we didn’t make it in time for the wedding, but we made it to the reception.” (=we missed the wedding)

@ConradCowboy, thanks a lot for this addition! I'm thinking about the preposition "in". Am I right that the phrase "in time" means that we arrive at some place or event at the moment WITHIN the limited time of this event? The event is not finished yet. So we haven't missed it being IN TIME.
I hope my words make sense)

@Zotov11 Yes, that's correct. So ON TIME means at the appointed hour, and IN TIME means with enough time to not miss something.
