Have is used with another word like been or to do
Example: I have to do my work. Here have is being used with to do
Got is the past of get. Get unlike have is used by itself usually
Example: I got food from the supermarket. Here you can see that got is used alone

You can use them together because have can be used with other words. I think I would be similar to
Yo tengo que obtener muchos libros para mis clases.
Here, have and got are used together in Spanish as well.
