Is Rodham sounds funny to native speakers?
I kind of interested in American politics (I’m a international student studying international relations) and I notice people take it funny for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s middle name.
Almost no Americans can pronounce my name correctly, but I kind of feel there’s something in it. So kind of curious. Just because it sounds awkward or it’s diction related to some other words reminding people to think funny?

@JayYe No, definitely not. I, for example, am very proud of being Korean. So I kept my Korean last name and my last name is different from my husband's name. This is not uncommon in the States, but most still change their name to their husband's name still.
"Maiden name" usually is used for someone like Hillary, who did change her name. Then we refer to Clinton as her "married name" And Rodham as her "maiden name."
Some couples create a new last name, and both people change their name. This is rare. For example, with the Clintons, they might form a new name called Clintham, which is a combination of Clinton and Rodham. Then they would be Hillary Clintham and Bill Clintham.
Some people create a hyphenated name, where they create a new name by just sticking then together. This is less common for couples, and more common for their kids. (In our example, Chelsea would be Chelsea Rodham-Clinton, where "Rodham-Clinton" would be considered her last name.)
omg that's too much information. I got carried away, sorry!

@JayYe "Rodham" and your name don't seem awkward to me. I am not the type of person to make fun of someone for their name, though. But I know that plenty of people make fun of politicians based on their name alone, so I'm sure jokes exist about Hillary R.C.'s maiden name. I haven't really heard Joe's like that in the States, though.
Do you know about maiden names? Rodham is not her middle name, given to her by her parents. It is the last name of her parents, which she kept as her "middle" name when she took on her husband's name, "Clinton." So we can Rodham her "maiden name."

Maiden name is not that I heard of before. I thought all American women change her family name when they marry.

@JayYe Well then I'll go one step father. Most children in the States take their father's last name. But some also use the hyphenated name, like I said, and very rare cases take the combined last name. But way more children who have their father's last name, compared to the number of women who has their husband's last name.
There! Now you know more than you ever wanted to know about American naming culture!
