Actually There are a lot of expressions you could use in a lot of different contexts:
“To make a fuss about nothing.”
Or
“To fuss over nothing”
Or
“To make a big deal out of nothing”
Or
“To fret over trivial matters/ things”
Or (idiom)
“To make a mountain out of a molehill”

Ex 1.
Kid: He took my pencil!
Mom: He’s just borrowing it.
Kid: No, it’s MINE!
Mom: Don’t make a fuss about nothing!

Ex 2.
Friend 1: “I’m getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow.”
Friend 2: “oh my gosh! Will you need help with anything!?”
Friend 1: “No, it’s fine. I’ll just take off from work tomorrow.”
Friend 2: “Just tomorrow!? You should rest longer!”
Friend 1: “Don’t make a big deal out of nothing, everyone gets their wisdom teeth taken out!”
