Pergunta sobre Inglês (EUA)
Hello!
I'd like to know how to use "though".
I'm always confused to use it. Also, what is the difference between "though" and "but"?

Though -
although : in spite of what was said
<James loved Batman growing up, though he never bothered to read any of the comic books.>
<Though as much as I love reading Shakespeare, I enjoy the work of Ernest Hemingway better.>
<Though you are loved by many, you could stand to be more sociable.>
"But" describes a contradiction against a statement, etc <but you told me to get eggs, not milk", "though" describes a fact/statement that exists against a certain assumption/belief, but is valid nonetheless.
I hope you understand this.

Though is usually used at the beginning of a sentence, while but is used towards the middle. For example, "this is cool, but I like that better," vs, "Though this is cool, I like that better." There are also a few versions of "though", such as although or "even though," which can sound more natural.

@VivienK: Haha, thanks. Just trying to help wherever I can. And I agree, "even though" and "although" sound a lot more natutal and common than "though" in some sentences. I would rather say "Even though it rained, we went out" than "Though it rained, we went out", even though (lol) they are both correct.
