O que significa "just around the block" and "on the corner" ?
O que significa "just around the block" and "on the corner" ?
(Context: A girl is talking about how her father left her when she was eleven years old.)
Girl: So I got out and then he just drove away. And he'll tell you that it was just around the block. But he left me there. And I was just sitting there, by myself, on the corner, in the dark, for what felt like forever.
Can I assume that her father was pretending to leave her alone, and actually just turned a corner within the same block?
And the girl was sitting on a certain spot of a street?
Thank you.

She was sitting on the corner of a block (at an intersection).
"just around the block" implies a short distance away. He was pretending to just go somewhere close.

I think it's the opposite: her father told the girl that he will go just around the block (so somewhere very close, within reach, in other words, he wouldn't go far), but instead he left.
The girl was sitting on the corner - that is the spot where two streets meet, in fact any of the four corners formed by perpendicular sidewalks that you can see at an intersection.
