Aboard usually refers to being on a ship/boat.
The cruise ship is getting ready to sail so all the passengers must be aboard.
Abroad means in another country.
I live in the United States. We’re going to go abroad this year for vacation. (Probably Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.).

(Not a very common word.)
Abroad: going into another country
