I've heard something good about these books from English speakers:
Alan Timberlake A Reference Grammar of Russian
Derek Offord, Natalia Goglitsyna Using Russian A Guide to Contemporary Usage
They are not for beginners though, rather reference grammars.
Some praise online courses for beginners duolingo.com and learnrussian.rt.com. I doubt their quality though.
