The second one is fine. But in the first sentence it should be "in the stadium". "On the stadium" means on the top of the building, which I guess is not where you watched the game

The first sentence should be:
"I went to watch football at* the stadium yesterday."
(You can also say "in* the stadium").
小さな違いがあります。
The difference between the 2 sentences is very small. In the first sentence, it says "the stadium". In the second sentence, it says "a stadium".
THE stadium ---> (特定) more specific. The stadium is probably known, or specific. 特定のスタジアム。
Ex: "I went to the stadium yesterday (the one nearby)".
私は昨日町にスタジアムに行ってきました。
A stadium ---> (一般的) more general. This could be about ANY stadium.
Ex: "I went to a* stadium yesterday (any stadium anywhere)" 一般スタジアム。
私は昨日、遠くのスタジアムに行ってきました。
Don't worry which you use though, people will understand. :)
