@overrunie “Getting with someone” refers to the success of flirting. Whether they hooked up or got into a relationship they both agreed to being together. It’s all about context from the other party, sometimes you’ll have to ask them to elaborate haha
When someone tells me they got with someone I always ask “Are you guys dating/exclusive etc.” depending on the type of friend I have.
Or it would go down like this:
“Guess who I saw last night?”
“Who”
“James, we got together.”
“Oh you guys hooked up?”
“I thought about it but no. I want a relationship & I told him that, he ended up asking me out on a date.”
The ending statement would mean that they successfully flirted & are attempting to pursue something.

Getting with someone is usually used when someone intends to pursue a relationship with that person.
Coming on to someone would be one sided flirting. Making advances towards someone you’re interested in.

@iicloudy so getting with is neutral(and always consensual) but coming on to is negative(and always one sided)?

@overrunie yes getting with is consensual.
Coming onto isn’t negative unless the response to the advance/flirting is negative.
Example:
“The way he came on to her was weird she ended up walking away.”
“What did he say?”
“He said ‘your jeans look loose, is there any room for me?’”
Or
Girl: “Aww the beautiful girls are leaving.”
Guy: “Except for the one standing right next to me.”
Girl: “Aww that was sweet!”
(These were probably terrible examples haha)

does "get with someone" refer to the process of flirting or success of flirting?
for instance, "He got with her" - does this mean "he's in a relationship with her"? or, "he flirted with her" no matter what the outcome was?
though those are actually awesome lol
