A: Software is the program or instructions you run on a computer, and "intricate" means very complicated (and usually small. You might talk about a watch having a very intricate mechanism).

A: A lot of software engineers are well versed in software development, but vice versa doesn’t apply (not all software developers are engineers). It’s not really a difference in which is correct, but rather what job you’re referring to, since they’re (slightly) different jobs
